​The following ideas emerged from the Rapid Planning Night Session on February 3.
Grow good local jobs and a skilled workforce?
Support renewable energy and energy efficiency?
  • Assess tax impacts of growth
  • Incentives for businesses that come here 
  • Expedited permit process
  • Getting water and sewer to the Gateway (zoning district) and start attracting development 
  • Attracting and encouraging businesses that employ several (i.e. approx 12 people range) 
  • Ensure infrastructure affordability, specifically affordable sewer and water 
  • Create more places for business to go 
  • Vocational Tech School 
Promote tourism and draw visitors to Richmond?
  • You tube channel with videos of local attractions
  • Greater Richmond visibility on the web
  • Attracting tourists by maintaining what we already have 
  • Round Church as a destination 
  • Wedding receptions / event usage of town green (tents/alcohol)
  • Hotel (visitors cannot stay local) 
  • Maintaining unique and/or affordable eateries 
  • Solar farm on top of water tank
  • Partner with GMP to be a Rutland-style micro-grid demonstration 
  • Find a site for a Richmond community solar project 
  • Increase new construction building energy codes 
Nurture a local farm and food economy?
  • Bring back “Richmond Dollars”
  • “Shop Local” efforts 
  • Test a Winters Farmers Market (library? Congo Church? School?)
  • Community Kitchen & food Coops 
Ensure that Richmond is friendly for businesses?
  • Promote idea that Richmond is open for business by preparing the Gateway zoning district 
  • Provide places to live for local workers 
  • Conservation Fund idea for economic development 
  • Ensuring more businesses by not beings scared about growth/development
